2013 – a quiet storm..

2013 has been a deafeningly quiet year on the music front, with only a handful of gigs & guest appearances to speak of. However, the self- imposed hiatus has allowed me to immerse myself in new projects that are ready to receive the breath of life in 2014.

So what exactly have I been up to? Back in January, the wonder of the internet allowed me to e-mail a demo to the founder of a famous East London based record company, who in turn blind-tested it with his associates, who unanimously decided that a collaboration was a must. The songs are in, the producer is ready & recording of my 2nd album begins this Jan!

Allied to that, I’ve been writing & recording with an all-star collective tentatively known as The Boom Band (names withheld to protect the innocent) which has resulted in an exciting collection of songs that should appear as an album before the spring *fingers crossed*.

I’ve also seen some amazing & inspirational artists perform this year; Incognito, The Black Crowes, Mavis Staples, John Mayer, North Mississippi All-Stars, Bonnie Raitt & The Tedeschi Trucks Band to name but a few and, whilst I’ve not trodden the boards much myself, acoustic shows with Matt Taylor & Jon Amor in weird venues such as the library at Lord’s have kept my eye in. It was great to get up and sing with Rick Wills & Kenney Jones once again, as well as guesting with the amazing Tommy Blaize Band at Chelsea’s 606.

All in all, 2013 has been a year of behind the scenes labour – putting in the footings if you will – for an exciting & adventure-filled 2014. Hopefully, I’ll catch up with you somewhere on the other side!

Wishing you every happiness in the new year,

Butch

Recorded at GibsonUK last December

Acoustic Session for Ontsofa.com

Acoustic Session for Ontsofa.com

In what was pretty much my last musical act of 2012, I was invited to visit Gibson Uk in old London Town to record a short session for Ontsofa.com. For some reason I was particularly nervous (mid-afternoon, stone cold sober, time pressure!) and struggled to get the vibe on an original track. Had been playing around with Any Major Dude for fun at home & decided to give it a crack instead. Hope you like!
